FOR 62 YEARS GOUDA BY CANDLELIGHT BRINGS GOUDA INTO CHRISTMAS SPIRIT. A FESTIVE DAY, FULL OF HIGHLIGHTS IN MUSIC, THEATRE, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT

From noon till late in the evening thousands of people have a wonderful time in Gouda's historical town centre. Music groups may be found everywhere in town, DIY walks and guided tours, street theatre and dancing. The geese gaggle lead by its herder will walk the Market square. Behind the weighing house (Achter de Waag) you may enjoy the nativity scene and living manger.

In several beautiful churches free accessible concerts may be attended. People from Gouda have decorated the town and shops, pubs and restaurants will be in Christmas atmosphere

At sunset, approximately 10 minutes to 7pm, the electrical lights won't be switched on. Around the Market square the windows will be illuminated by Gouda Candles. This is a prelude to the highlight of the day, the ceremony of enlightning the huge Christmas tree in front of the medieval town hall, in the middle of the market square. The ceremony starts at 7pm and will take approx. 50 minutes.

The Mayor will read the nativity story, the Christmas tree will be enlightened and ten thousands of people sing Christmas carols. Prior to the ceremony Christmas carol community singing starts at 6.30pm.

Did you enjoy your visit to Gouda? 16 December Gouda by Candlelight After party concert starts at 3-4.15pm at location 15, the Gouwekerk.

The Gouda Ice track opens on 20 December, the track surrounds the old town hall.

Gouda by Candlelight is a production of 'Stichting Gouda bij Kaarslicht' (Gouda by Candlelight Foundation) in co-operation with the municipality of Gouda.
